Friendship--a sacred bond at the heart of many anime series--comes to the fore in these episodes of the hit slapstick adventure Fairy Tail. Erza is torn between her loyalty to the friends she had as an enslaved child and her ties to the members of the Fairy Tail Guild when she challenges the powerful Jellal. As the battle reaches its climax, viewers get a glimpse of the extraordinary powers fire wizard Natsu commands. Before the gang has time to break in their rebuilt guild hall, they're faced with a complex set of interlocking challenges posed by the Thunder Legion. Their redoubtable leader, the lightning wizard Laxus, wants to wrest control of Fairy Tale from his grandfather, Makarov--even if it means killing the innocent citizens of the surrounding city. Despite being in the middle of a pitched battle, Natsu and fellow dragon slayer Gajeel squabble over who's going to take out their common enemy. Much to their chagrin, they have to join forces and use both Fire and Iron Dragon techniques to defeat Laxus. The ending suggests even greater foes are lurking in the wings and that the wizards of Fairy Tail have just been a cat's paw, manipulated from behind the scenes. Although these episodes offer more action and less humor than previous installments, Fairy Tail remains as entertaining as ever.
